New Bridge Installed Over M54

A new 240-tonne bridge has been installed over the M54 as part of wider plans to develop the prestigious i54 South Staffordshire site.

The single span accommodation bridge, which stretches 45 metres over the motorway, was put into place on Saturday, November 3.

The new bridge replaces an existing bridge in Middle Lane, which needed to be moved to allow access to the business park, and will be used for access to the water treatment works and as a footpath and bridleway.

Cllr Mike Maryon, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “i54 South Staffordshire is a great success story and it is crucial to have good links to the rest of the UK.

“Projects likes these are the “nuts and bolts” of the scheme and a sign of the progress we are making on the new access.”

i54 South Staffordshire is a joint venture between Staffordshire County Council, Wolverhampton City Council and South Staffordshire Council and promises to put the area in the premier league of international investment.
