i54 Utilities Infrastructure Contract

As part of the i54 South Staffordshire development, Staffordshire County Council is letting ten major contracts. The i54 Utilities Infrastructure Contract is one such contract.

The utilities infrastructure contract was designed to provide necessary services to each of the new plots. The works included the design, project management and installation of the following:

  • Gas pipe installation comprising 180mm and 90mm Medium Pressure gas main and connections into adjacent developments over a length of approximately 1000m
  • Water pipe installation comprising 250mm and 180mm mains and connections into adjacent development over a length of approximately 1000m
  • Communications ducting and chambers for future communications cables and connections into adjacent developments over a length of approximately 1670m

J Murphy and Sons were appointed contractors for this scheme following the tendering process- they are accredited under Lloyds Multi Utilities Accreditation Status (MURS) to install water, gas and telecom services to the adoptable standard of utilities companies.

They worked closely with Severn Trent Water, BT and SSE plc throughout the works which included regular site inspections and meetings as the works progressed.

The works also included close liaison with Jaguar Land Rover in order to meet their timescales and specifications and other companies involved in works on site in order to minimise disruption - such as Western Power, Birse and Interserve.

Completion

Works were completed several weeks in advance of the contracted JLR date of 28th June.

Nigel Cook of Jaguar Land Rover thanked Staffordshire County Council for delivering the utilities project early.
